ORiS Joins ROCOS: Robotics and Wireless Power for In-Orbit and Lunar Operations

ORiS is part of ROCOS, a project developing robotic systems for in-orbit servicing and lunar operations, funded by Regione Piemonte under the SWIch programme. With a budget of around €5 million, ROCOS brings together a consortium of more than a dozen partners led by the Politecnico di Torino, including Argotec, nLIGHT, Kurs Orbital, Lazzero Tecnologie, adaptronics, ALITE, Deplotic, Electronica, Evolunar, VIBUR, and Voyager Technologies.
The project defines two scenarios: a complete in-orbit servicing system, and a lunar operating base that combines a servicing robot, a lunar drone, and a remote wireless recharge system. That last element is where ORiS fits directly. We are contributing our expertise in high-precision pointing, tracking, and optical systems the ability to hold a laser beam steady on a moving or distant target with sub-microradian accuracy, which is what makes wireless power delivery possible in the first place.
Robotics and wireless power are two halves of the same goal: keeping systems working, and working longer, far from any power socket. Contributing alongside these partners is another step toward the infrastructure that future lunar missions will depend on.
